Reflection - All Images
To evoke a deeper range of emotions, I chose to be my own model for the projected portrait assignment. I used two different paintings, drawn to their complicated perspective of women. In the first image, the subjects face away from the painter. Hiding their expressions in this way leaves room for interpretation, either contrasting or playing off the despairing emotion of the girl in the second painting. Both express alternative forms of grace--the girl's separation from and the women's concealment of. In the blue shot, I situated myself in-between the women, facing the audience in a way the women couldn't thereby expressing an atypical emotion in relation to their body language. In the red shots, I first positioned myself to display the creeping devilish figure in the corner, then portraying the girl as painted. I wanted to reflect the hidden message of the image, as well as embody the intended message of it. I think the image provides an eerie overlay, which bleeds into the viewer's conscious and sinks with their sadness. I used a projector to cast the image on my face and shot from a straight-on perspective, maintaining the black background of the shots to further emphasize the color and emotion of the paintings.
