Reflection - Image #2
The images in this triptych are strung together as a sequence of events, taken at the Columbia University campus. The subject, a boy kicking and retrieving his soccer ball, is seemingly common, no? However, I was particularly interested in him - young, obviously, which is why I couldn't figure the reason for him being all by himself on a university campus. I kept wondering (in between giggles of his cuteness) what brought him there and what even made him think to go there.
The natural light that struck the brick pathways illuminated the campus and was particularly picturesque against the white of the snow. Similar elements in this triptych are the varying lines created by the steps and brick formation: there's a curved line to soften the contrasts of the horizontal and vertical lines, as well as a nice organic rim of shrubbery against the more industrial buildings. The skyline also adds a nice transition piece between the second and third image, as they seem to extend into one another.
A simple, single-subject attracts focus and identifies a clear focal point, while the clean coloring gives the set a thoughtful and peaceful feel.
