Reflection - Image #3
I found this door on the sidewalk in the city, framing it to illustrate a sort of "urban garden". Though no action instigates the irony of the image, the general situation is ironic enough. There are many elements that contribute to the overall irony. For one, the color of the flowers in relation to the dark, gritty pavement; instead of extracting beauty from the surrounding space, they emphasize the dirtiness of the sidewalk, the blackness of the wall. Chiefly ironic is the existence of the flowers in an industrialized urban environment. They're not even trying to appear organic, they're man-made and singularly dimensioned--pseudo-grace in an ugly space.
