Written Reflection - Photo Collection
My collection exhibits a variety of subjects: myself, cities, and light. Thematically uniting these images is the color palette, where milky backgrounds contrast dusty blacks and blues. The focus of the photographs are not the surface subjects, rather the geometric shapes implied by the space between the subjects and their backgrounds. It's the idea of looking through the image to interpret the content for oneself. Therefore, juxtaposing the simplicity of the shapes and colors is the complexity of personal interpretation. Life is said to follow a universally-applicable maturation process. But humans personalize this in creating their own life's journey. I wanted to reflect the idea of tangential possibilities to linear paths. The dots represent the potential curvature to the circle of life, while the polaroids narrate the sequence of life--from place to place, the people in between, and the lights you dream at night.
