Reflection - Image #2
I photographed these images at an off-season greenhouse along Buffington St. I was directly on the premise, so most of my images were taken from a close perspective to my subject. Instead of focusing on the place, I composed my shots based around lines created by the space. Most interesting to me about this image is the concept of depth (or lack thereof). You would expect this picture to have an infinite sense of depth--as if it extended forever. However, that's not exactly the case. The horizon reflected by the wall, so perfectly in line with the actual horizon, flattens the image instead of elongating it. Also, editing it in black and white with such high contrast gives the sky a shallow quality. This image, instead of creating an illusion of dimension, relies on the texture of the space and its relation to the line work. All in all, this image feels more like a portrait, and I like the idea that--while photography is meant to capture reality--this image gives reality a constructed effect.
